All proceeds will go to OUR PARTNER...
GlobeMed at UCLA partners with the Nwoya Youth Center in Northern Uganda, a grassroots non-governmental organization that aims to increase reproductive health awareness among adolescents.
Last year we...funded THE GOAT PROJECT. Forty goats were distributed to young, single mothers. Milk from these goats will provide quality nutrition to growing children, and once the goats breed and multiply, the lucrative goat meat will help pay for school fees and help lift the family out of poverty.
THIS YEAR...we are raising funds to help the center fund a multifaceted sexual health intervention program that will empower youth to make healthy decisions and be leaders in the community. GlobeMed's bead and bracelet sales will help support one facet of the project, which will be to provide young girls who frequent the center with sanitary pads. Many families see sanitary pads as an expensive and unnecessary purchase, and as a result, many girls will miss school regularly to avoid discrimination and embarrassment. Hence, many girls will struggle to keep up in school, creating a gender-based education gap. It is even known for girls to commit to sexual favors with different men to acquire sanitary pads, resulting in very high-risk behavior. The sanitary pad distribution aspect of this project will erase these problems with a very simple solution.
